Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden

Champs Masonry had the honor of restoring the historic chimneys at the Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden. We rebuilt all of the chimneys using their original bricks and traditional lime mortar, carefully preserving the period brickwork while ensuring the structure’s long-term stability. We then installed stainless steel chimney liners to safely serve the home’s heating appliances, blending modern safety with historic craftsmanship. This restoration enhanced the home’s structural integrity while maintaining its 18th-century charm for future generations to enjoy.

Amos Bull House

At the historic Amos Bull House, Champs Masonry restored the exterior brickwork to preserve its original character while reinforcing its structural integrity. Our team meticulously repaired deteriorating sections of the brick façade, ensuring a seamless match with the existing materials. Additionally, we restored the chimneys to full functionality, blending traditional techniques with modern solutions to maintain the building’s historical significance and durability for years to come.

Butler McCook House & Garden

Champs Masonry restored the chimneys at the historic Butler-McCook House & Garden. We rebuilt the chimneys to preserve the structure’s authenticity, and for the flues no longer in use we capped them off and installed brick vents to keep air moving through the masonry — preventing the trapped moisture that otherwise causes a disused chimney to deteriorate from the inside out. Our careful craftsmanship keeps these features sound while preserving the legacy of Hartford’s oldest surviving residence.

Isham-Terry House

Champs Masonry restored the Isham-Terry House through careful repointing and restoration of its painted brick façades, bringing new life to this architectural treasure. We also restored the home’s stone foundation, and for the chimney no longer in use we capped it off and installed brick vents to keep air flowing through the masonry — preventing the trapped moisture that causes a disused chimney to deteriorate. Using period-appropriate materials and techniques, we preserved the home’s historic character while protecting it from future weather damage.

Nathan Hale Homestead

At the Nathan Hale Homestead, Champs Masonry carried out a full structural and historic restoration. We rebuilt the chimneys and installed new copper flashing to keep the roofline watertight for decades to come. In the basement, we rebuilt the brick column supports on new footers and added a moisture barrier at their base to stop rising damp from undermining the structure. We also restored the fireplaces and hearths, returning these original features to sound, period-correct condition while preserving the home of Connecticut’s state hero.

Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden

Champs Masonry restored the masonry at the historic Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden, rebuilding the chimneys with their original bricks and traditional lime mortar to preserve the home’s 18th-century character. We restored the interior granite stone foundation with lime mortar, and brought the exterior brownstone foundation back to life using a custom rose-brown colored lime mortar matched to the original stone. Every material was chosen to stay true to how the house was built, protecting it for generations to come.

11 Hempstead Street, New London, CT 06320

Hempsted Houses

At the historic Hempsted Houses, Champs Masonry carried out a comprehensive restoration of one of New London’s oldest landmarks. We restored the stone foundations and rebuilt the chimney with new flashing to keep the structure watertight, then topped the work with a new cedar shake roof in keeping with the home’s period character. We also installed a stainless steel chimney liner to safely serve the heating system, pairing modern protection with traditional craftsmanship to preserve this colonial-era home for generations to come.

Palmer-Warner House

At the historic Palmer-Warner House, Champs Masonry restored the home’s stone foundations and rebuilt the chimney with new flashing to keep the structure sound and watertight. A new cedar shake roof returned the home to its period character, and we installed a stainless steel chimney liner to safely serve the heating system. Pairing traditional materials with modern protection, our work preserved this East Haddam landmark for generations to come.

33 Plains Road, Moodus, CT 06469

Amasa Day House

This landmark was at risk of being condemned. The wood framing was becoming saturated with moisture and mold, the stone foundation was saturated with moisture and dirt, and the stone walls were bowing in. We completely saved this beautiful landmark by correctly restoring the stone foundation, wall by wall. On the interior, we extracted all dirt and moisture from between the stones, rebuilt sections of stone wall as needed, and repointed and filled every gap and void with lime-based mortar. On the exterior, we hand-dug the foundation 4 feet wide and 8 feet deep, power washed out all dirt and debris, and repointed the stones with lime-based mortar. We then installed a plastic sheathing moisture barrier around the exterior stone foundation and back-filled it with a compactor. Finally, we rebuilt the chimneys, returning this historic home to sound, lasting condition.

249 Broad Street, Wethersfield, CT 06109

Buttolph-Williams House

At the historic Buttolph-Williams House, one of Connecticut’s finest surviving First Period homes (built around 1711), Champs Masonry rebuilt the chimney and restored the stone foundation. Working with period-correct materials, we preserved the massive central chimney that anchors this early colonial saltbox and shored up the stone foundation beneath it, keeping one of Old Wethersfield’s oldest landmarks sound for generations to come.

Forge Farm, Wethersfield, CT 06109

Forge Farm

At Forge Farm, Champs Masonry restored the chimney, carefully repairing and rebuilding the masonry with period-appropriate materials. We returned the chimney to safe, sound, and lasting condition while preserving the historic character of the property.

Captain Daniel Francis House

Built in 1803 for Wethersfield sea captain Daniel Francis, this Federal-style brick home — later updated with a Second Empire mansard roof — is a landmark of early American brick masonry, originally raised by master builder James Francis. Champs Masonry preserved its historic brickwork and mortar joints, honoring the craftsmanship of the past while protecting the home’s layered architectural history for the future.
